A visit to BBC Gardeners World Live
We went to BBC Gardeners' World Live at the NEC near Birmingham last weekend after meaning to go for several years. My wife loves our garden and has spent a ton of time in ours since we moved here so she was very excited!
The outdoor show gardens were a major highlight of the day and the headline Evolution Garden was awe-inspiring. We'd also booked tickets to see Professor Alice Roberts give a talk related to it. She was completely captivating. The talk and the garden complemented each other really well, and together they were easily the best part of the day.
My other favourite stand was the Garden Model Railway. They had miniature steam engines running around a beautiful garden. They even have their own show next April which will be going into our 2027 plans.
The indoor halls were predictably less relaxing. Packed to the rafters, slow-moving crowds and the persistent ambient noise of a thousand conversations at the same time. The air conditioning was good though!
As you'd expect at the NEC food and drink was eye-wateringly expensive. A small iced latte came in at Β£6, as did a small ice cream. I paid it, because I wanted a coffee and an icecream.
We'd told ourselves that we weren't going to buy anything but came home with some lovely new flowers for the garden. This also necessitated picking up a fancy folding trolley. I think they probably made the most out of all the vendors throughout the show.
If you're planning a visit, go around outside first, book a talk, and bring a flask!
