Swim Not Gym (Health)

Swim Not Gym
I tried the gym. I hate the gym. I keep trying, but it’s always awful! This time, I joined the local leisure centre. This is better. The pool brings back nostalgia from my childhood. I used to be a pretty decent swimmer when I was a kid. Not so much anymore, but it’s a nice memory. The first time my wife and I went swimming sucked. I managed ten 25 metre lengths. We went again the next day and I managed an extra two lengths. But I was enjoying it. I suck at breathing and swimming (a potentially deadly combination!)...

Level 3 - What I've been playing (Gaming)

Level 3 - What I've been playing
Since February I played mostly games on my Switch… Oxenfree. It’s a short 5 hour point and click adventure, highly recommend it. The story was amazing, don’t go looking for spoilers! If you haven’t played it, go and play it now. Just finished Oxenfree on #NintendoSwitch. Cool game! On to the next one... #backlog— James Leighton (@geekyjames) March 24, 2018 I started playing Ocarina of Time (again, didn’t finish) . Maybe I’ll try again later in the year. What's the chances of that..? @octalfm pic.twitter.com/Nhhenda8cw— James Leighton (@geekyjames) March 5, 2018 Almost finished Mario+Rabbids. Need to go back and finish...

Getting Back Into Python (Coding)

Getting Back Into Python
I had a realisation this week that I should spend more time outside of work doing things to improve myself. I’m on track with my diet (mostly), I’m trying to cut back on sugars and (especially) sweeteners, so why not do something that stretches my brains in the evenings. I have enough games in my backlog that I could probably play every game to completion and still not beat them all before I retire so that’s kind of low priority, I just need to stop buying new fucking games. Hmm. Looking at you, Lumines Remastered. And N++. And Smash Bros. ...

Time Tracking With Tasker (Lifelogging)

Time Tracking With Tasker
I listen to the podcast Cortex when I’m driving, and they got me interesting in looking up time tracking and how maybe this would benefit me. I already use Rescuetime with Exist as a measure of sleep, productivity, social media posts, and other things that correlate to these like the weather, the length of the day, and more. It’s pretty neat and I look at it several times a week.   One metric it misses is driving time. As someone who drove 17,000 miles in the last 12 months for work this is pretty key to me. Apparently rescuetime can do...

Level 2 - What I've been playing (Gaming)

Level 2 - What I've been playing
It’s been a while since my last blog post… I’ve been busy with work, the gym… and… playing lots of games! Here’s a run down of that last activity. November 2017 After telling myself I wouldn’t be buying Skyrim for the second third time, I bought Skyrim for the third time. I’ve spent the most time in the game this time, but I still got bored of the main quest. Pretty sure I finished the Dark Brotherhood questline, starting being a thieving shit in the Thieves Guild and generally romped my way across the world. Playing Skyrim on a portable...

Level 1 - What I've Been Playing (Gaming)

Level 1 - What I've Been Playing
I still haven’t really completed many games in 2017. I was going to avoid Super Mario Odyssey until I’d beaten Galaxy and Galaxy 2, but that didn’t happen. (I got to the credits in Odyssey, though so that’s OK. Maybe.) I think NOW would be a good time to STOP buying games, for the last time. ;) The romp through the story of Odyssey was great, and I definitely agree with the majority of reviews. The game is brilliant! I think it’ll now take its place as a 15 minute game whenever the urge strikes, complete some more mini games,...

How To Scrobble To Last Fm With Spotify Connect (How-To)

How To Scrobble To Last Fm With Spotify Connect
Last.fm now natively supports scrobbling from Spotify Connect. The Listenz service has now been discontinued. To enable this, head to your Last.fm account settings and open the Applications tab. Connect to Spotify here (Spotify Scrobbling) and you’ll be good to Scrobble from Android Auto, Bose Soundtouch, PS4 and other Spotify connect applications. The rest of this post is left as an archive. It’s pretty much impossible to scrobble songs you listen to via Spotify Connect via the standard spotify apps. However, recently Spotify released an updated API that allows the retrieval of the currently playing track. Some kind soul has...

Removing Duplicate Scrobbles On Last Fm (How-To)

Removing Duplicate Scrobbles On Last Fm
So, my last.fm account/spotify went mental last week and logged a single song 1000 times in a row. Since Last.fm is currently in the throes of dying and removing every last useful feature from their site, I was wondering how I could fix this. Well, sk22 on Github has provided a handy piece of javascript that works perfectly. Simply navigate to the page and enter the script into your address bar (or add it to a bookmark on the bookmark bar) and enjoy your duplicate free library!
