Week Notes - 2026-21

I finished a book, and a game this week! Highly unusual for me. In other news this week, it's hot. Apparently the hottest May for a very long time. Therefore I'm hiding out with two large fans writing my week note in my dark study.

I started Jingo by Terry Pratchett last weekend and didn't want to put it down. I finished it last night before bed. I hadn't always gotten on with the Watch stories of Discworld, but I feel like this was the best one yet.

I finished the main story in Dragon Quest II 2D HD last week as well. As with all JRPGs, the ending felt artificially long but it landed in a good place. Naturally the credits teased me with post-game content that I will not be partaking in.

Work has provided me with a 34 inch ultra-wide monitor this week. It was the last perk of going into our actual office, and I am glad to finally have one on my desk at home. I'm definitely more productive on this screen compared to my old 28 inch 4k screen. Not having to flick between windows is brilliant.

My gaming PC is mostly up to the task of ultrawide gaming which is handy. I spent a bit of time in Train Simulator World 6 (at 30fps..), Dragon Quest II (with a resolution patch that I'd actually installed for Moonlight streaming 4:3 resolution to my iPad that happily also worked the other way), and Euro Truck Simulator. I haven't really decided what I am going to deep dive into next, but it probably isn't going to be another long RPG for a little while.

Out in the real world, we went for a few evening walks after work making good on my plan to actually leave the house voluntarily. I also managed to swap the boot lift struts in my car. The dealers want mega money (we're talking over ยฃ1000 for an out of warranty job) but I'd seen YouTube that they are pretty much plug and play and don't require any actual tools - a new set was ordered on eBay for ยฃ100 and it took me about 45 minutes to swap them over. The boot closes quietly without stopping half way down now! Success!
