Week Notes - 2026-32

Hello! This week I finished "The Last Continent" by Terry Pratchett. I am kicking myself for waiting so long to read it! Top book. It reminds me why Rincewind is the best Discworld character (with Death a very close second). I haven't decided what I will read next, but I do want to keep the momentum going since that was my 14th book this year. One more to go before I equal last year's reading.

On the gaming front I busted out one of my many 3DS consoles (that's also a great theme for a future post...) and started playing "Fire Emblem: Awakening" again. I remember I had a lot of fun with this game back when it came out but I am not sure if I ever finished it. It feels like a nice trip down memory lane so far. I also finished Firewatch. Welp. That was a hard hitting game. I won't spoil anything, but the ending was 10/10. I honestly didn't see it coming.

On the other screens, we watched "Masters of the Universe" which was a fun way to spend an evening. The film isn't 'great', but it's certainly better than 'good'. By the power of Grey skull!!!

Out and about, we visited two more National Trust properties (Baddesley Clinton and Packwood) and spent the morning catching up with my oldest friend for the first time in years! Our paths haven't crossed much recently, so this felt rather special. Hopefully it won't be another 3 years before we catch each other again. Of course, this means more blog posts added to my queue. Perhaps I'll work on transforming my notes into fully fledged posts soon. I think I have six to write about now!

I also managed to fully transition away from Toggl for my life tracking system. I spent a chunk of time drafting a proper plan, and experimented with building what is basically a full product with Claude. I'm really happy with the outcome: Toggl is now deprecated from my life! I have a web interface via all my Tailscale devices to start and stop timers (both manually and automatically via HTTP requests!), I have fully customised reporting, and I also decided to suck back in some data from Exist to allow me to generate consolidated reporting. It should be far more robust than the the command line scripts I was using previous!

The process was enlightening and I soon learnt why a plan is so important. I also jumped in to Jira and created a project board to log bugs and enhancements. Then getting Claude to read a ticket, flesh it out with me, plan the feature fully, build it, and finally teach me how to test the output. Super interesting stuff.

Next week, I'm going to spend less time messing with the time tracker and more time actually doing things though :)
