Week Notes - 2026-36

Watching

We watched a few episodes of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. It felt like The Big Bang Theory crossed with What If?, and I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the season. It was a lot of fun.

I also watched the first episode of the new series of Grand Tour today. I thought it was excellent. Who doesn't like fast cars racing planes? I'm still a bit dubious about Francis but maybe I'll be a fan by the end of the season.

Gaming

I finally got stuck into Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince on Steam. DQM is a Pokรฉmon-style take on Dragon Quest and is a lot of fun. It'll be a slow burn for sure, but I'll keep working through it.

I dipped into Lumines and Piczle Cross on Switch when I fancied a lighter gaming session.

Steps and challenges

I dropped the walking target to a flat 5,000 steps a day instead of chasing my rolling average. If I hadn't, I'd have failed the streak within a week or two. It's still a fair challenge though. Since 1 January I've only cleared 5,000 on about 43.2% or 105 of 243 days. Completing this challenge successfully boosts that rate to 49.5%. Keeping it up until the end of December lands at massively improved 62.2%

Here is how the week landed against that 5,000 line:

Daily steps against the 5,000 target, 31 Aug to 6 Sep 2026

Daily steps for 31 August to 6 September 2026, target 5,000

Wed 2 Sep5,852Yes
Thu 3 Sep7,570Yes
Fri 4 Sep6,207Yes
Sat 5 Sep6,609Yes
Sun 6 Sep5,989Yes

I missed the last day of August, right before September's 5,000 floor kicked in. Every day since has cleared it, so I am six days into the new streak. If you're interested the week averaged at 5,943 steps per day.

Reading

Reading is the streak I'm happiest with. I read every single day this week, and the habit is well and truly established since I have read at least a few pages of a book every day for 37 days.

I finished Heroes, the second of Stephen Fry's Greek myth books. I've now started Abroad in Japan by Chris Broad, which has been on my list for ages. I'm really enjoying it so far. Reading as my cue for bedtime has been such a nice habit to integrate into my daily routine.
