Week Notes - 2026-17
Last week felt like a blur. Being back at work after over a week off is never fun, but I was so busy that five days felt more like three.
I started playing two new games: Tavern Keeper and Under Par Golf Architect. Tavern Keeper is an absolutely fantastic management game amongst the likes of Two Point Hospital (or Theme Hospital, if you are a little bit older...) I played through the first two scenarios over the weekend, and Tavern Keeper managed to keep me up way past my bedtime for the first time in ages.
I really want to like Under Par Golf Architect but honestly it feels a bit underbaked. The core premise is absolutely fantastic: build the best golf course and you can even play your own courses! The implementation fell a bit flat for me though; terraforming felt like a chore so most of my courses were mostly flat affairs, the path finding for your players was also quite comically bad: even if you set waypoints, they would aim straight for the hole regardless of any obstacles you placed in the way. This means you can't currently holes that dogleg around obstacles or even holes that bend back on themselves around a bunch of trees. Hopefully it will get some updates soon.
This week I started Monkey King Journey to the West, and I've been enjoying the first few chapters. This Chinese epic is described as the inspiration for works such as Dragon Ball, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and more recently Black Myth: Wukong.
This week I am going to try and consistently read before bed. I've slacked off on this for the last few months, and really want to get back into that habit.
I also need to get back into a walking habit. I'll think about starting myself another step challenge, as I've mostly stopped getting out and about on my WFH days. We did buy a camera this week though; perhaps that will get me out more? I've been doing really quite well with my diet that I've lost over 5kg over the last few months. Getting back into my steps will compound those efforts I am sure.
We went on a National Trust guided walk over the weekend at the Clent Hills. I'll probably write a separate post about that, but I will say that about one third of my weekly steps actually occurred yesterday...
My music this week mostly consisted of Metric's new album 'Romanticize The Dive'!
